Here is our guide to what’s on in and around Thame this month.

1: Oxfordshire County & Thame Show
Saturday 30th July 2011

Thame Show is billed as The Greatest One Day Agricultural Show in the country, and every year they attract over 20,000 visitors of all ages, with competitions for Sheep and Cattle, Horses and Showjumping with some of the country’s finest riders, a Premier Dog Show which attracts an entry of approx 1000 dogs of all different types and sizes.

The show also boasts a fine Domestic Section, a large Food Hall selling Local Produce, a Craft Hall with many crafters there to help and advise you, an indoor Shopping Mall and many Trade Stands selling a wide variety of goods. However, we feel that one of the main attractions has to be the Imps motor cycle display team! For forty years The Imps have performed around the world to millions of people, extraordinary discipline and incredible teamwork enable The Imps to deliver shows comprising complex ‘cross-overs’ requiring split second timing, breathtaking fire jumps and visually stunning pyramids of red tunics – all served up with a dash of humour and aided by the spell-binding mini Imp mascots. This is something which can’t be missed!!

2: Sunday Jazz and pudding night at The Thatch, Thame.
31st July 2011

For something a little more sedate, why not head to the Thatch on Sunday 31st July for one of their fantastic pudding and Jazz nights. A chilled evening of great music and delicious food, what more could you ask for?

3: Astonbury Festival
Saturday 16th July 2011

For those of you who went to Music in Elms Park in May this year, you will have seen the fantastic Muttz Knuttz perform and if this is not reason enough to head over to Aston Rowant at 7.30pm they also have Kids Can’t Fly, The MFU, Izzy Stone, and Tim Matthews headlining. They also have some great entertainment, DJ’s, food and The Cockspur rum shack where the Astonbury Angels serve £1 shots and cocktails!

The aim of Astonbury is to hold a family orientated fun night of music and entertainment to help them raise much needed funds for the new cricket pitch that they are going to build beside the existing pitch at Butts way, letting Aston Rowant’s 3rd and 4th senior teams and our ever expanding youth and junior section play at the home club arena.

Tickets are £10 in advance or £12 on the night – kids half price – tickets are available from the clubhouse or email the organisers at astonbury@astonrowantcrick The clubhouse is open to visitors on match days so just drop in.
