This weekend brings the start of the monumental challenge for Training Thame’s Nigel Pattison and his team as they begin the first of their three peak climbs to raise money for the fantastic Matt Hampson Foundation.

You may have seen our features about Nigel before, perhaps heard about his many adventures as he cycled from Lands End to John O Groats, or perhaps know about his 150 mile Coast to Coast run, but this years event is set to be the toughest of them all.

This weekend, Nigel and his team will attempt to climb the three peaks of Ben Nevis, Scaffel Pike and Snowdon in under 36 hours. If that’s not tough enough one of their team, Gaz Houston, a paraplegic who is also from Thame, will be pulled up the peaks in his wheelchair. When asked why he decided to undertake such a difficult challenge, Nigel said that “2012 is Olympic and Paralympic year so what better way to show the strength and courage of those spending a lifetime in a wheelchair than to conquor 3 mountains in less than 36 hours.”

Nigel and his team are raising money for The Matt Hampson Foundation, a fantastic charity based in Leicester who inspire and support young people seriously injured through sport. The charity was officially launched in 2010, but helping others has always been an ambition of Matt Hampson’s since his horrific accident at Franklins Gardens on 15th March 2005. After a scrum collapsed in training with the England Under 21’s, Matt very nearly lost his life, and was left breathing through a ventilator and Paralysed from the neck down. Matt spend many of the following months locked – in, unable to communicate with anyone.

As Matt faced the toughest challenge of his life, he drew on his experiences on and off the field. It is with great passion and determination he has created a new beginning for himself and now so many others. Matt is a fantastic person who has devoted himself to helping others, and The Matt Hampson Foundation is a charity that is very close to our hearts. We hope that you can join us in sponsoring and supporting Nigel and his team as they attempt such a difficult Challenge by going to and pledging as much as you can for what will be a brilliant achievement and fantastic charity.
